As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day, protests have erupted in various parts of the country, signaling a growing discontent with the All Progressives Congress-led government. According to Farah Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives, the widespread demonstrations are a clear indication of the public's frustration with the economic hardship, insecurity, and unfulfilled promises of the ruling party. Dagogo, who represented the Degema/Bonny federal constituency, stated that the last three years have been particularly challenging for many Nigerians, with rising living costs and declining standards of living. In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Dagogo urged the APC-led government to use its remaining tenure to address the challenges facing the country and implement measures to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians. The former federal lawmaker noted that the government's policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and soaring inflation, have worsened the economic conditions, and the promised relief and economic recovery have yet to materialize for many citizens. Dagogo expressed confidence that the APC would relinquish power at the end of its tenure in 2027 and maintained that Nigerians are increasingly embracing the African Democratic Congress as a credible alternative for national leadership. He urged political leaders to prioritize national unity, good governance, and policies that directly improve the welfare of Nigerians. The statement read, 'The widespread protests being witnessed across major cities and communities in the country are not isolated incidents; they are a reflection of the deep frustration, hunger, and hopelessness that many Nigerians are experiencing today. As we commemorate another Democracy Day, the prevailing mood across the nation is one of anxiety, despair, and uncertainty. For many citizens, the realities of economic hardship, rising insecurity, and the loss of livelihoods have overshadowed the ideals and promises that democracy represents.' Dagogo emphasized that the government should focus on taking concrete and immediate steps to ease the burden on Nigerians and restore public confidence, rather than offering assurances of future improvements.
