Diri Commends Progress on Nembe-Brass Road, Hails Tinubu's Support

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the 21-kilometre Phase One of the Nembe-Brass Road project. The project, which is situated in the state's Eastern Senatorial District, has been described by the governor as a long-awaited dream come true for the people of Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas. During his inspection of the project on Wednesday, Diri stated that the road, which traverses the area's mangrove forest and rivers, is a testament to his administration's unwavering commitment to connecting previously inaccessible riverine communities by road, despite the state's challenging terrain. Accompanied by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei, the governor first inspected the asphalted 10-kilometre stretch of the road, including about three bridges, before crossing the river on a barge to assess progress on another 10-kilometre section that has been stabilised. Diri assured that the project has been adequately funded since its commencement and that his administration would complete it within the agreed timeline with the contractors. The governor also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for awarding the contract for the second phase of the project and ensuring that work progresses simultaneously with the first phase being executed by the state government. 'I feel accomplished,' Diri said. 'It is one thing to have the vision and another thing to have the will to execute it. Being a Bayelsan, the importance of this road cannot be overemphasised. This is what the people have been yearning for, and I am satisfied that they are happy about the project.' On funding, Diri stated that his administration has never disappointed the contractor and believes that the contractor will not disappoint them. He also noted that the completion of the road will reduce cases of sea piracy. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Teibowei, expressed satisfaction with the level of work completed so far, stressing that the most difficult aspect of the project had already been handled. He said the fifth bridge under construction would be completed within three months and assured that the road would be delivered within the stipulated timeframe. The South-South Area Manager of Setraco Construction Company, Mr Jose Cosme, said Phase One of the road project would be completed in December 2026.
