Alexander Ombugu, a factional chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, has raised an alarm over an alleged threat to his life. Speaking to journalists in Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday, Ombugu called on security agencies to provide him with protection and investigate the matter. According to him, the alleged threats may be connected to his stance on issues that arose during the party's recently concluded primary elections in the state. However, Ombugu declined to reveal the identities of those he suspected to be behind the threats, preferring to disclose such information to security agencies to avoid compromising investigations. He appealed to security agencies in the state to provide him with adequate security and immediately investigate the matter. Ombugu stated, 'The whole issue is because I am standing by the truth, and some people within and outside the party are not happy about it.' He narrated an incident where his wife returned home crying after hearing rumors that he would soon be attacked. Ombugu added that he had not done anything wrong since he joined active politics and had always followed the laws of the Labour Party and Nigeria. Therefore, he appealed to security agencies for adequate security coverage and a proper investigation into the matter to protect his life. Recently, Ombugu had called for efforts to resolve internal disputes within the party during a press briefing in Lafia. He extended an olive branch to all factions within the Labour Party in the state, warning that persistent disagreements among members could affect the party's chances in the 2027 general elections. As the state chairman of the party, whom he claimed was recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Ombugu said it was his responsibility to work towards uniting members ahead of the elections. He expressed his readiness to discuss extensively with any leader, stakeholder, or group in the party to resolve outstanding issues before the 2027 political activities commenced.
