Delta Emerges Second in National Governance Rankings, Kaduna Tops List

A recent report by the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies has ranked Delta State as the second-best governed state in Nigeria. The 2025 CIAPS Governance Performance Index placed Delta State in the second position with a score of 70 per cent, closely following Kaduna State which scored 73 per cent. This ranking is a testament to the effective governance and leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose administration has been recognized for its outstanding performance in infrastructure development, public service delivery, and overall management of state affairs. The report highlighted that Governor Oborevwori's administration has driven extensive investments in critical sectors such as roads, bridges, healthcare, and education, which has reinforced public confidence in the state government. The ranking also reflects the impact of ongoing development projects and governance reforms being implemented by the administration, positioning Delta among the leading states in Nigeria in terms of governance performance and service delivery. The top ten positions were completed by Anambra, Niger, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Oyo, Enugu, and Borno States, while Taraba State ranked last with a governance score of 20 per cent. The CIAPS Governance Performance Index serves as a benchmark for evaluating the effectiveness of state governments and promoting accountability, transparency, and sustainable development across the federation.
