Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has expressed his disagreement with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over his recent call for the Service Chiefs to be given a 90-day ultimatum to tackle terrorism. According to George, the responsibility for addressing insecurity in Nigeria lies with President Bola Tinubu, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. He argued that since the President appointed the Service Chiefs, he should be held accountable for their performance. George stated that the President has the power to give the Service Chiefs an ultimatum or sack them if they are not performing well. The retired military officer described the current state of insecurity in the country as unacceptable and stressed that security matters have been pushed aside for political interests. He emphasized that the most important issue in the country today is how to eliminate terrorists and that this is the job of the Commander-in-Chief. George pointed to the rising incidents of kidnappings and attacks across the country and warned that insecurity could threaten democratic participation ahead of future elections. He called on the President to convene a high-level security meeting involving retired military officers, intelligence experts, serving security chiefs, and relevant stakeholders to review Nigeria's security strategy. George also urged the authorities to take decisive action against sponsors of terrorism, stressing that the government has a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property. He added that the safety of citizens, security personnel, and communities across the country must remain a national priority. George emphasized that improved intelligence gathering, stronger inter-agency cooperation, better equipment, and operational efficiency are necessary to tackle insecurity effectively.
