PDP Faction Unanimously Backs Jonathan for 2027 Presidency Amidst Police Blockade

In a dramatic turn of events, the Peoples Democratic Party's anti-Wike faction has officially endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. This move came despite a massive police blockade and threats of demolition from the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, which forced the party to convene an emergency session at a secret location. According to Comrade Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of the party's Interim National Working Committee, the faction had served statutory notices to the Independent National Electoral Commission and federal security agencies weeks prior to the Special National Convention. However, on the eve of the convention, the management of the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja suddenly cancelled the booking, citing direct threats from Wike. The party revealed that over 20 truckloads of armed policemen were deployed to block the road leading to the event centre, prompting the faction to summon an emergency joint session. The session, which comprised the PDP Board of Trustees, the Interim National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee, State Chairmen, and various gubernatorial and national assembly candidates, unanimously adopted a motion affirming Jonathan as the party's presidential candidate. The faction accused President Bola Tinubu of sponsoring Wike's actions, aimed at choking out the opposition and transforming Nigeria into a one-party dictatorship. The party called on Tinubu to rein in his fear of impending loss and take practical steps to de-escalate the political tensions in the country. With Jonathan now officially endorsed as the party's candidate, the PDP declared its structures fully mobilized to rescue the nation from economic collapse and political tyranny.
