Kwankwaso Blasts Allegations of Secretly Aiding President Tinubu

The erstwhile governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has strongly refuted claims alleging his clandestine collaboration with President Bola Tinubu in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. During a recent appearance on Global TV, Senator Kwankwaso noted that political speculations connecting him to President Tinubu are not new, having been present for several years, even during his tenure in the past. These particular accusations were recently leveled by Sanusi Bature, who serves as the spokesperson for the Kano State Governor. Bature asserted that Kwankwaso's political activities were ultimately poised to benefit President Tinubu.
In his response to these assertions, Kwankwaso stated unequivocally, “I think only foolish people would believe that. We are not working for anybody. We are only working for NDC.” He further clarified, “Bola Tinubu has been my senior brother and good friend up till now. But that doesn’t mean we shall pull all our political ideologies together with him. He is doing his own and I am doing my own.”
Kwankwaso also expressed a belief that President Tinubu might not be fully appraised of the true depth of the nation's current challenges, suggesting that individuals within his inner circle are allegedly insulating him from the prevailing realities. “Normally under the current circumstances, the president may not see what is happening. And unfortunately, most of the people around him are actually the ones creating the problems,” the former governor remarked. He concluded, “So, in those circumstances, it is difficult to see who will advise him or tell him the obvious situation.”
Furthermore, the former governor reiterated his backing for Peter Obi, identifying the erstwhile Labour Party presidential flagbearer as the most suitable choice emanating from Nigeria's southern region. Kwankwaso elaborated, stating, “When we joined the NDC, we invited all our leaders from the six geo-political zones and we sat down and looked at the situations. We then decided to come together and work as a family.” He added, “The party, in its own wisdom, decided to zone the presidential ticket to the south. We looked around across the zones and we realised that Peter Obi is the best candidate. That was our assessment at that particular time.”
