Music executive Ubi Franklin has publicly criticized actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot for contesting the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary against the wishes of his political godfather, Femi Gbajabiamila. Elliot, who sought a fourth term to represent Surulere Constituency II, reportedly defied directives from Gbajabiamila and party leadership to step down for their preferred candidate, Barakat Bakare. Elliot pushed forward with his ambition but was forced out of the primary on Monday after his supporters were allegedly locked out of the venue and barred from voting. Ubi asserted Elliot should have withdrawn early to avoid public humiliation. However, an X user quickly labeled Franklin’s take as a “very unintelligent writeup.” Responding, Ubi doubled down, insisting Elliot brought the embarrassment upon himself by not bowing out gracefully.
