Major General Abubakar Sadique Wase, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army's 1 Division, recently commended three senior officers who have been posted out of the Division. He lauded their unwavering professionalism, loyalty, and valuable contributions to military service. This commendation was delivered by Major General Wase during a send-off ceremony organized at the Headquarters Conference Room in Kaduna.

During the event, the GOC urged the departing officers to maintain their dedication to duty and to continue serving as exemplary ambassadors of the Division in their new assignments. According to a statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Jingina, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Wase specifically praised the officers for their significant input to the formation, affectionately known as the “Stallion Family.” He further encouraged them to remain focused on their individual career paths and to consistently uphold the core values and high standards of the Nigerian Army, irrespective of their new postings.

Speaking on behalf of the relocating officers, Brigadier General Oluwasegun Okungbure expressed profound gratitude to God for divine protection and guidance throughout their service within the Division. General Okungbure also conveyed his appreciation to the GOC for orchestrating the farewell ceremony. He extended thanks to the Chief of Staff, various commanders, principal staff officers, and his colleagues for their steadfast support and camaraderie. He assured the GOC that the officers would continue to uphold the Division’s values and represent the formation positively in their subsequent roles.

In related operational updates, troops successfully routed Lakurawa fighters and dismantled their camps in Sokoto State. Separately, the Army apprehended an individual impersonating a soldier, accused of defrauding women in Gombe and Bauchi States. Furthermore, joint efforts by troops and vigilantes thwarted a bandit attack across Zamfara and Plateau States.

Shifting focus, Major General Wase concurrently reiterated the Division's dedication to reinforcing its collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This commitment aims to bolster the safety and security of corps members serving in Kaduna State. This assurance was provided on October 15, 2026, during a familiarisation visit by Mr. Abubakar Bawa, the Kaduna State NYSC Coordinator, to the Division's headquarters in Kaduna, where he was received by Wase.

Mr. Bawa explained that the purpose of his visit was to formally introduce himself in his new capacity and to solidify the already established relationship between the NYSC and the Nigerian Army. He acknowledged the consistent support from the Army, especially concerning the provision of security for corps members during their orientation programs. He also called for ongoing cooperation to guarantee the safety of corps members throughout Kaduna State.

In his response, GOC Wase extended a warm welcome to the NYSC delegation and reiterated the Division's steadfast commitment to assisting the NYSC in fulfilling its official duties. He underscored the crucial role of the NYSC scheme in fostering national unity, integration, and youth development, ensuring the delegation of the Army's continuous collaborative efforts. As detailed in the official statement, these various engagements highlight the 1 Division's dedication to acknowledging commendable service and enhancing collaborations with organizations vital to national progress and security.
