President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel involved in a recent aircraft crash. He affirmed that their dedication and ultimate sacrifice for the nation would forever be etched in memory. On Tuesday, the President conveyed his condolences via his verified X platform, highlighting the daily risks taken by Air Force members to safeguard Nigeria's security.

“This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the President stated.

Beyond the military, President Tinubu extended his sympathy to the bereaved families, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss on their personal lives. He remarked, “Behind every uniform is a family. A spouse, a child, a parent, a brother or sister who expected their loved one home. Nigeria grieves with them.” In a gesture of national respect, the President announced a three-day period of national mourning, instructing that flags nationwide be flown at half-mast to honour the fallen heroes.

Furthermore, President Tinubu disclosed that he received a briefing from the Chief of Air Staff regarding the incident. Consequent to this, he issued a directive for the Nigerian Air Force to initiate an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the crash's circumstances, aiming to avert similar tragedies in the future. He quoted, “The Chief of Air Staff has briefed me, and I have directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences.”

President Tinubu also lauded the Nigerian Air Force for swiftly mobilizing search and rescue operations in the wake of the accident. He concluded his statement by honouring their bravery: “We honour their service. We remember their sacrifice. May the souls of our departed heroes rest in peace.”
