Kano State Allocates N1.5bn for Massive Wedding Ceremony Involving 3,000 Couples

The Kano State Government has earmarked a substantial sum of N1.5 billion for an upcoming mass wedding event that will bring together 3,000 couples. According to the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, the state government is fully committed to this programme, which aims to promote marital bliss and stability among its citizens. Daurawa revealed this information during a press briefing on Monday, June 15, 2026, where he outlined the preparations and plans for the event. The N1.5 billion budget will cover various expenses, including the purchase of essential items such as furniture, food, and clothing for the couples, as well as a starter capital of N100,000 for each bride. Additionally, the Hisbah Board, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health, has commenced medical screening for the prospective couples to ensure they are in good health. This comprehensive screening includes tests for hepatitis, pregnancy, HIV, genotype, and other sexually transmitted diseases. Out of the over 5,000 applicants, 3,000 couples will be selected to participate in the mass wedding after the medical screening exercise. Daurawa expressed his gratitude to the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for initiating this laudable programme, which is expected to take place soon. The governor is anticipated to announce the date for the ceremony in due course. As the state prepares for this grand event, the Hisbah Board is working tirelessly to ensure that all arrangements are in place to make the mass wedding a memorable and successful occasion for the 3,000 couples involved.
