Iran Faces Fresh Wave of US Airstrikes as Middle East Conflict Escalates

A significant escalation of hostilities has been observed in the Middle East, with the US military launching a series of airstrikes against Iran. In a related development, Saudi Arabia and the US announced strikes on militant bases in Iraq, while Israel accused Iran-backed Hezbollah of violating a ceasefire. The Israeli military reported that Hezbollah had deployed a drone against an Israeli vehicle in Lebanon, describing the incident as a 'blatant violation' of the ceasefire. The US and Saudi Arabia have also been targeting Iran-aligned groups in Iraq, with the US military reporting that logistics and weapons sites belonging to these groups were targeted in recent airstrikes. Iraq's Hashed al-Shaabi alliance denounced the attacks as a 'dangerous escalation' against an 'official security institution', reporting that at least 20 of its members were killed in the strikes. Two Hashed officials said that five Iranian advisors were among those killed, and coffins draped with Iranian flags were seen at the site.
