As the Communist Party of China (CPC) commemorates its 105th anniversary, China has reiterated its commitment to fortifying its enduring relationship with Nigeria. The Asian giant has pledged to deepen collaboration across governance, economic advancement, and strategic engagements.

Ambassador Yu Dunhai, China’s envoy to Nigeria, issued a statement on Tuesday in Abuja to mark the anniversary. He highlighted the CPC's pivotal leadership as the primary catalyst for China's transformation into the world's second-largest economy and a significant driver of global economic expansion.

According to Ambassador Yu, China's rapid economic growth and sustained social stability are direct outcomes of the CPC's leadership. Since its inception in 1921, the Party has consistently pursued national rejuvenation and improved the living standards of its populace. He noted that over the past 105 years, the CPC has guided China through remarkable progress, with the nation now pursuing high-quality development, bolstering its industrial capabilities, and achieving significant scientific and technological milestones as it transitions from its 14th to the 15th Five-Year Plan.

The ambassador emphasized that historical evidence demonstrates the CPC's leadership as the bedrock of China's triumphs in revolution, reform, and development. He stated that the Party forged a modernization pathway tailored to China's unique national circumstances, rather than simply replicating Western models. This distinctive Chinese approach, he added, has broadened development alternatives for other developing nations seeking independent routes to modernization.

Yu Dunhai outlined four fundamental pillars underpinning China's progress: self-reliance and independence, a development philosophy centered on its people, continuous internal reforms, and innovative theoretical frameworks. He underscored the CPC's unwavering focus on citizens' welfare in governance, citing achievements such as the eradication of absolute poverty, the establishment of the world's most extensive education and social security systems, and expanded healthcare and pension coverage.

Furthermore, the ambassador affirmed the Party's sustained vigor through stringent self-governance and anti-corruption initiatives, alongside the continuous evolution of new governance theories, including President Xi Jinping’s ideology on Party building. He also mentioned China's contributions to global governance through initiatives like the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilisation Initiative, and reforms aimed at establishing “a community with a shared future for mankind.”

Reflecting on bilateral ties, Ambassador Yu noted the robust partnership China and Nigeria have cultivated over 55 years since establishing diplomatic relations in 1971. He remarked, “For 55 years, China and Nigeria have stood together through thick and thin as good friends and trusted partners.” He further elaborated, “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, our two countries have weathered changes in the international landscape by standing firmly with each other in solidarity and mutual support. Our political mutual trust has continued to deepen, practical cooperation has flourished across a wide range of fields, and our partnership has brought ever greater tangible benefits to both our peoples.”

Beijing’s support for Nigeria's developmental aspirations was reaffirmed by the envoy, who stated, “No matter how the international landscape evolves, the CPC and the Chinese Government have remained unwavering in their commitment to long-term friendship with Nigeria, steadfast in supporting Nigeria in pursuing a modernisation path suited to its own national conditions, and resolute in promoting practical cooperation that improves the well-being of the Nigerian people.” He highlighted continued mutual support for core interests and deepening cooperation through platforms like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Looking ahead, Yu expressed China's readiness to further strengthen its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Nigeria. He stated, “Standing at a new historical starting point, the CPC and the Chinese Government stand ready to work with Nigeria to carry forward our traditional friendship, deepen exchanges on party building and state governance, strengthen strategic communication, and further consolidate political mutual trust.” The ambassador concluded, “By translating political consensus into practical cooperation, drawing on mutual learning between political parties to support national development, and building an even stronger partnership for mutual benefit, we will continue to advance the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to new heights and work together to promote the shared prosperity of China and Africa, as well as lasting peace and common development of the world.”
