Netanyahu, Trump Differ on Israel's Security Despite Iran Peace Deal

The relationship between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump has been put under the spotlight, with Netanyahu stating that they do not always share the same views. This comes after Trump expressed frustration over Israel's attacks on Lebanon. During a press conference, Netanyahu acknowledged that despite their differences, they are partners and often find common ground. Trump had earlier described Netanyahu as a 'very difficult guy' who should be grateful to the US. The comments were made after Trump announced that he had signed a peace agreement with Iran, which includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping traffic. In exchange, the US will lift its maritime blockade on Iranian ports. The agreement also outlines a conditional path towards broader sanctions relief and the unfreezing of assets, tied to strict international monitoring of Iran's nuclear program. However, opposition leaders in Israel have criticized the deal, stating that it leaves Iran's regional missile infrastructure intact. Netanyahu has pushed back, stating that Israeli forces will maintain a strong security presence in southern Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria to counter ongoing threats. The Israeli Prime Minister warned that the threat to Israel is not over, despite the peace deal. Trump is expected to release the full text of the Iran deal after a signing ceremony. A senior administration official noted that Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon is not a condition of the deal, but if Iran fails to control Hezbollah and prevent attacks on northern Israel, the Israeli army will have the right to respond.
