Bandits' IED Blast on Zamfara Road Claims Two Lives

Two individuals, a young man and a woman, tragically lost their lives after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), reportedly planted by bandits, detonated along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in Zamfara State's Bukkuyum Local Government Area. The devastating incident occurred on Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, when the IED exploded, resulting in instant fatalities for the victims.

Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the unfortunate event, identifying one of the deceased as Mujahid Sani. Graphic images circulating widely on various social media platforms depict the mangled remains of the victims, which were placed in sacks. The scene of the explosion also revealed the extensive destruction caused by the powerful device.

Both victims were laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon, following the horrific attack. Bakatsine, in a statement, detailed the incident: “This morning, an IED reportedly planted by bandits exploded on the Gurusu–Gwashi road in Bukkuyum LGA, Zamfara State, killing a young man, Mujahid M. Sani, and a woman.”

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, he remarked, "It is heartbreaking. Two people simply trying to use the road lost their lives in such a horrific way." Bakatsine further highlighted the deteriorating security situation in rural areas, observing, "Sadly, this is becoming the reality for many people living in rural communities, where roads are increasingly becoming death traps." He then challenged authorities on the urgent need for action: "How many more innocent people have to die before authorities take decisive action to clear these routes of IEDs and make them safe again?"

The analyst also provided context for accompanying visuals, noting: “NB: The first frame shows Mujahid M. Sani before the blast. The second shows the severely dismembered bodies of the victims after the explosion, placed in sacks. The final frame shows the scene of the blast on the Gurusu–Gwashi road.”
