Kwara School Teacher Falls Prey to Terrorists on Way to Work, Community Cries Out Over Insecurity

In a disturbing incident that has heightened fears over the deteriorating security situation in Kwara State, a primary school teacher named Shina Adeoye was abducted by suspected terrorists. The incident occurred on Thursday morning along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku Road in the Ekiti Local Government Area, as the teacher was making his way to work at the Cooperative Primary School in Eruku. According to sources within the community, Adeoye was intercepted by the terrorists, who then whisked him away to an unknown location. As of the time of this report, the whereabouts of the teacher remain unknown, with efforts ongoing to secure his release. The abduction has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing deep concern over the growing insecurity in the area. A resident, who preferred to remain anonymous due to security concerns, described the incident as a troubling sign of the increasing danger along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku axis. The community member lamented the lack of visible security presence on the route, despite repeated complaints by residents. 'The road has become very dangerous. People travel with fear because there is hardly any security presence along the axis. We have raised concerns several times, but nothing seems to have changed,' the resident said. The community is becoming increasingly vulnerable to attacks by armed groups, with residents appealing to the government and security agencies to act before the situation worsens. In November 2025, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed an attack by suspected terrorists on the Eruku community, which resulted in the deaths of at least two people and injured another. The police responded to the incident, forcing the attackers to flee into the bush. The command described the incident as an attempted bandit attack. The recent abduction of the teacher has further highlighted the need for improved security measures in the area to protect residents and prevent such incidents.
