PTAD Launches Online Health Scheme Enrollment for Federal Pensioners

Full Story
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has officially commenced the enrollment process for its health benefit scheme, targeting eligible Federal Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) pensioners. This registration is being facilitated through the newly launched PTAD Health Insurance Scheme (PHIS) online portal, designed to enable pensioners to easily sign up and access comprehensive healthcare benefits.
PTAD announced the opening of registration on its X handle on Friday, stating, "Dear Federal DBS Pensioners, Registration is now open. Visit https://phis.ptad.gov.ng to register and access this important health benefit."
To participate in the scheme, qualified pensioners are required to visit the designated PHIS portal. They will need to log in using their unique PTAD pension number and surname, which serves as the initial password for first-time users. A crucial step for new registrants involves an identity verification process, which mandates taking a live selfie using a smartphone equipped with a front-facing camera.
Applicants must also furnish essential personal details, including their current address, emergency contact information, next-of-kin particulars, and their preferred healthcare facility. Providing a National Identification Number (NIN), if available, is also strongly encouraged. Once all necessary information is entered, applicants can submit their enrollment for processing.
PTAD has indicated that successful applicants will receive notifications via both SMS and email, alongside instructions on how to obtain their National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) card. This health benefit grants eligible pensioners access to medical services at NHIA-approved hospitals and health facilities across Nigeria. It is important to note that the scheme is exclusively for the eligible pensioner and cannot be transferred to spouses, dependants, or caregivers.
For pensioners who may encounter difficulties during the online registration, PTAD has made provisions for assistance. They can visit any PTAD state office, where trained PHIS officers are available to provide support with the enrollment process. The directorate has urged all eligible Federal DBS pensioners to complete their registration via the official portal and ensure the accuracy of all provided information.
The PTAD Health Insurance Scheme (PHIS) is specifically designed for Federal Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) pensioners under PTAD's management, and registration for the scheme is free of charge.
Here's a breakdown of the registration steps:
1. Navigate to the official PHIS portal.
2. Log in using your PTAD pension number, with your surname serving as the initial password for first-time access.
3. Capture a live selfie using a smartphone with a functional front camera for identity verification.
4. Complete all personal details, including your address, emergency contact, next-of-kin information, and preferred hospital. Submission of your NIN is recommended.
5. Submit your enrollment. PTAD anticipates that approval will typically take approximately 72 hours, after which an SMS and email notification will be sent with instructions on how to access your NHIA card.
Essential items needed for registration include:
* Your PTAD pension number.
* Your surname, precisely as registered with PTAD.
* A smartphone equipped with a front camera.
* Your NIN, if accessible.
* Next-of-kin details.
* Your preferred hospital.
The scheme offers healthcare coverage through NHIA-approved hospitals and health facilities nationwide. The insurance is strictly for the eligible pensioner and is not transferable to family members or caregivers. Pensioners requiring assistance can visit a PTAD state office for help from a PHIS-trained officer.
