200ml: NAFDAC Ordered by Market Withdrawal Sachet Alcohol Below

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a directive for all manufacturers to retrieve alcoholic beverages sold in sachets and other containers with volumes less than 200 millilitres from the market.

Manufacturers are mandated by NAFDAC to conduct a thorough inventory of these affected products and ensure their destruction under the strict oversight of the agency. The financial responsibility for this recall operation will rest solely with the companies producing these items.

According to the agency, this recall initiative is a crucial step in eliminating proscribed small-volume alcoholic products from circulation, thereby reducing their availability, especially to underage individuals.

This action follows the full implementation of the ban on the manufacturing, import, distribution, and sale of alcoholic drinks in sachets and containers smaller than 200ml, which officially commenced on January 1, 2026, after the conclusion of a transition window provided to producers.

NAFDAC has issued a stern caution, stating that any manufacturer, distributor, or business found to be in contravention of this directive will be subject to severe regulatory penalties.

This enforcement drive coincides with the recent unveiling of the Nigeria Alcohol Policy and its comprehensive Multisectoral Implementation Plan 2026–2030 by the Federal Government in Abuja.

The Federal Government asserts that executing this new policy, combined with enhanced enforcement of current regulations, will significantly contribute to fostering responsible alcohol intake, mitigating alcohol-related damages, and safeguarding the overall health and welfare of citizens across Nigeria.
