Ekiti State, Onelife Initiative Join Forces for Wider Reproductive Health Access

Ekiti State authorities have reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring broad availability of complete reproductive health provisions for females throughout the state. According to Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, continuous training and skill enhancement for healthcare personnel are crucial tactics employed by the state administration to elevate health indicators and achieve Universal Health Coverage.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Monday at the conclusion of a five-day training workshop for healthcare providers, which was a collaborative effort with Onelife Initiative, Dr. Filani's remarks were delivered by Mrs. Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, the Permanent Secretary within the ministry. The commissioner emphasized that “The collaboration is aimed at strengthening service delivery and ensuring that women have access to information and quality services to make informed decisions about their health.” He further stated, “As a government, we believe no woman should die or suffer complications from preventable reproductive health issues.” He concluded by stressing, “By equipping our health workers and expanding access to information and services, we are building a healthier Ekiti where every woman can make informed choices about her body and her future.”

Dr. Filani affirmed the Biodun Oyebanji administration's unwavering commitment to guaranteeing that all women, regardless of their age, geographical location, or socioeconomic status, receive precise information, high-quality services, and dignified care.

Previously, Dr. Abayomi Ibrahim, the Director of Public Health, noted that the training session gathered medical doctors, nurses, and pharmacists from various tiers of healthcare provision throughout the state. He explained that attendees received instruction on the most current methodologies, equipment, and pharmaceutical provisions relevant to providing reproductive health services.

Mr. Sola Fagorusi, the Executive Director of Onelife Initiative, commended the state government's demonstrable political resolve and committed his organization to ongoing partnership aimed at broadening the program's reach across all 16 local government areas of the state. Fagorusi elaborated, stating, “The training was designed to equip healthcare providers with updated knowledge, skills and counselling techniques to deliver comprehensive, rights-based and non-judgmental reproductive health services.” He also highlighted that the initiative would play a role in reducing maternal fatalities linked to unsafe abortions.

Representing the participants, Mrs. Tolulope Adewemimo, the Ekiti State Adolescent Health Officer, expressed gratitude to both the state government and Onelife Initiative for organizing the training. She remarked, “The knowledge acquired will enhance service delivery and improve client satisfaction across health facilities in the state.”
