Kano's Drug Abuse Battle Intensifies with New Task Force Committees

Full Story
The Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking in Kano State has taken a significant step in its efforts to curb the menace of narcotics by inaugurating nine specialised subcommittees. This development, aimed at bolstering the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by Lamara Garba, a member of the committee's Media and Publicity team.
The inauguration event, which took place on Friday, August 21, 2026, saw the task force chairman, Muhuyi Rimingado, address the newly appointed members. Rimingado charged them to demonstrate unwavering commitment, dedication, and determination in fulfilling their assigned duties. He underscored the gravity of their responsibilities, noting that the overall success of the task force hinges on the seriousness and resolve each subcommittee applies to its mandate.
Rimingado further encouraged the members to redouble their efforts, collaborate effectively, and maintain a sharp focus on the task force's core objectives. He emphasised that combating drug abuse and trafficking demands sustained dedication, efficient coordination, and a collective sense of responsibility from all stakeholders. "The committees are established to provide a more coordinated and specialised approach to tackling the various dimensions of the drug problem, while ensuring that relevant stakeholders work together towards achieving lasting results," Rimingado stated, highlighting the strategic intent behind their formation.
The newly constituted committees include Finance; Media and Publicity; Advocacy and Sensitisation; Licences, Inventory and Verification; Compliance, Inspection and Electronic Tracking; Monitoring and Implementation; Intelligence; Reformative and Traditional Council; and Anti-Drug Coordination Committee. It is noteworthy that while nine committees were announced as inaugurated, the statement provided a list of eight distinct committee names. This organisational structure is designed to ensure a coordinated approach across different intervention areas.
Urging the members to view their appointments as a profound call to service rather than a mere assignment, Rimingado stressed that their roles demand discipline, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the collective good of the state. He also tasked the committees with fostering robust collaboration and ensuring their activities translate into tangible outcomes in the ongoing campaign against drug-related challenges. This inauguration signifies a crucial advancement in the Multi-Agency Task Force's strategy to enhance institutional coordination and broaden its response to drug problems within Kano State.
