A tragic incident unfolded in Damaturu, Yobe State, as a violent altercation between young men reportedly led to the demise of a 27-year-old individual. The Yobe State Police Command officially acknowledged the event through its spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement released on June 30, 2026.

According to details provided by the Police Public Relations Officer, law enforcement officers from the 'A' Division in Damaturu were dispatched to Kalam Hamlet following a distress call received around 3:00 AM on June 29. Initial police investigations indicate that the confrontation stemmed from a disagreement between Abubakar Hassan, aged 30, and Buba Usman, 23, concerning a divorced woman.

The situation escalated when Abubakar Hassan summoned his three brothers – Ibrahim Hassan, 27; Isa Hassan, 20; and Aliyu Hassan, 30 – to the scene. Upon their arrival, Buba Usman allegedly used an axe to attack Ibrahim Hassan, inflicting a severe wound to his neck that proved fatal almost immediately. Furthermore, Buba Usman is accused of using the same weapon to injure Abubakar Hassan, Isa Hassan, and Aliyu Hassan.

The police statement also noted a retaliatory response from the deceased's family. "During the ensuing confrontation, relatives of the deceased allegedly attacked Buba Usman with arrows, causing injuries to his abdomen," the statement detailed.

Upon receiving the report, police personnel swiftly arrived at the location, where they arranged for the injured parties to be transported to the Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, for urgent medical attention. Ibrahim Hassan's body was taken to the hospital morgue before being released to his grieving family.

The principal suspect, Buba Usman, is currently undergoing treatment at the Damaturu Teaching Hospital and has reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime. Authorities confirm that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
