Mangal Foundation Extends Free Healthcare to 30,000 Vulnerable Katsina Residents

The Dahiru Bara’u Mangal Foundation has provided free medical services to an impressive 30,000 vulnerable individuals across Katsina State since 2018. This significant impact was revealed by Hussaini Kabir, a trustee board member of the foundation, during the launch of a free hernia and hydrocele surgery initiative on Friday at the General Hospital, Katsina.
Kabir announced that over 700 vulnerable patients, both from Katsina State and surrounding areas, are slated to receive complimentary hernia and hydrocele operations as part of the ongoing effort. He explained that the initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility for residents who, due to financial constraints, cannot afford necessary medical treatment.
“Individuals diagnosed with hernia and hydrocele are presently undergoing screening in preparation for surgery, while those presenting with less critical ailments will be given suitable medications at no cost,” Kabir stated. He further noted that these medical outreaches are regular occurrences, encompassing a range of services such as free eye surgeries, urological treatments, and various other specialised medical procedures.
Additionally, Kabir informed the public that approximately 2,000 patients suffering from diverse eye conditions are currently undergoing screening and treatment. Those identified as needing surgical intervention for their eyes will also receive these procedures entirely free of charge.
During the event, Dr. Saifullahi Bawale praised the foundation’s efforts, highlighting them as a significant enhancement to healthcare provision within Katsina State. He remarked, “This programme has rekindled hope for thousands of vulnerable patients who were previously unable to access treatment. Comprehensive provisions, including sufficient medical staff, equipment, medications, and other essential facilities, have been made to guarantee the successful execution of this exercise.”
Beneficiaries, deeply appreciative of the intervention, shared their gratitude. Malama Zulaihat Adamu, a resident of Jibia Local Government Area, conveyed her immense relief that her son would at last receive hernia surgery, a procedure they had been unable to afford for many years. She expressed, “My son will now get the surgery we couldn’t pay for over a long period. We are truly thankful that he will finally get treatment.”
Similarly, Shamsu Abubakar, another recipient currently undergoing treatment for an eye ailment, voiced his optimism that the impending surgery would restore his vision. “I earnestly pray this operation will put an end to my eye issues,” he stated.
Firdausi Muhammad, hailing from Batsari Local Government Area, also described the medical outreach as a significant comfort for patients unable to finance surgical care. Concurrently, free eye care services are being offered at the Katsina Eye Centre. Here, patients are screened and treated, those needing prescription eyeglasses receive them, and individuals diagnosed with conditions necessitating surgery are scheduled for their respective operations.
