State: Nursing Student Found Slain in Off-Campus Lodge Identified — Imo

The identity of the nursing student discovered with a slit throat in her room in Imo State has now been confirmed. The deceased, Wendy Achumba, was a female student enrolled at the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho. Her body was found on Thursday, May 21, at her private off-campus residence located in Umulogho, within the Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.
Concerns arose among neighbours when Ms. Achumba did not emerge from her room or respond to repeated calls. Following several unsuccessful attempts to contact her, neighbours forcibly gained entry into her room, where they made the grim discovery of her lifeless body, with her head almost completely severed. A source informed Punch that the room's door remained securely locked from the inside with its key, while the victim's mobile phone was conspicuously absent from the scene.
Community sources indicated that Wendy Achumba, an indigene of Ngwa in Abia State, had successfully completed her midwifery programme and was currently undertaking post-basic training at the institution.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, DSP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, stated that a full investigation into the killing has been initiated. Okoye remarked, "The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment." He added, "Following the report, the DPO and operatives promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, after which the body was recovered and deposited in the morgue, while investigations have commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible."
