Anambra Police Apprehend ASP Over Viral Threat Video, Orders Drug Test

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Newton Isokpehi. Isokpehi gained notoriety after a video circulated widely online, showing him issuing threats of violence.
In the disturbing footage, the officer explicitly warned that he would open fire on any individual who attempted to record him during his official duties. A significant public outcry ensued after the video went viral, prompting the command to swiftly identify and take the officer into custody.
Consistent with the Nigeria Police Force's strict disciplinary standards and ethical guidelines, internal proceedings have been initiated against ASP Isokpehi. Furthermore, as a crucial component of the ongoing inquiry, the officer underwent a mandatory drug test. This measure aims to assist the Command in uncovering all relevant details surrounding the incident and to guarantee a comprehensive and open investigation.
CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, vehemently denounced the officer's behaviour captured in the video. He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force operates as a disciplined organization and will not tolerate any acts of misconduct, abuse of authority, incitement, or other unprofessional conduct that could erode public trust and confidence.
The Anambra State Police Command has given assurances to the Nigerian public that the results of the disciplinary process will be transparently communicated. They also stated that any officer found responsible for wrongdoing will face appropriate penalties as dictated by both the law and police regulations.
