Halima Nwakaego Reveals Doubts Before Bashir El-Rufai Marriage Collapse

Halima Nwakaego has recently shared intimate details concerning her personal journey following her separation from Bashir El-Rufai. Her revelations cover experiences with single parenthood, entrepreneurial pursuits, a subsequent romantic relationship that led to heartbreak, and her diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The union between Bashir, who is the son of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, and Halima, daughter of Ibrahim Kazaure, a former Senator representing Jigawa State, took place in the year 2020. The couple welcomed twin sons into their family in the subsequent year.
Bashir had previously made public the dissolution of his marriage to Halima, attributing the split to 'Gen Z wahala.' Following this announcement, he issued a public apology regarding the manner in which he disclosed their marital separation.
Through a recent publication on her Substack platform, titled 'Memoirs of a Single Nigerian Twin Mum with ADHD,' dated Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Halima disclosed that her marriage officially concluded in July 2024, a period when their twin boys were approximately two years old. The mother of two also recounted falling in love with a different individual mere months after her divorce, an experience that ultimately culminated in heartbreak.
She quoted a popular adage, stating, “There is a saying that men will stain your white.” Halima confessed to harbouring minimal belief in the institution of marriage, acknowledging that she foresaw the demise of her own union even before it commenced, a perspective she attributed to her upbringing and the belief that men constitute safe havens.
She poignantly remarked, “Imagine entering a marriage already preparing for it's funeral.” Drawing an analogy, she likened her enduring affection for white attire, despite its propensity to get stained, to her profound conviction in love itself, juxtaposed with her distrust of men. Concluding her thoughts, she stated, “For someone with so little faith in men, I have a ridiculous amount of faith in love.”
