Lagos Unveils Youth Climate Fund with Grants up to $5,000

In a significant move to tackle climate change, the Lagos State Government, in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, has launched the Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund. This initiative aims to empower young people with innovative ideas to make Lagos a greener, cleaner, and more resilient city. The programme is designed to support youth-led projects that focus on practical climate solutions, thereby contributing to a more sustainable Lagos. According to the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, this is an opportunity for young people to rise to the challenge and demonstrate that meaningful climate action can start in Lagos. Wahab announced the initiative on his social media handle, encouraging young people to take advantage of the opportunity. 'Got an innovative idea to make Lagos greener, cleaner, and more resilient? This is your opportunity to rise, lead, and demonstrate that meaningful climate action starts here. The future is in YOUR hands – and this is your chance to help shape it,' Wahab wrote. The Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund will provide microgrants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to eligible youth groups, comprising individuals aged 15 to 24 years, to implement climate action projects across Lagos State. To apply, interested participants must attend a pre-launch information webinar, where details on eligibility, project requirements, and application procedures will be explained. The webinar is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Applicants are required to register for the pre-launch webinar using the official registration link and fill in their first name, last name, and email address during registration. After attending the webinar, applicants will be guided on the grant application process, project eligibility, and funding requirements. They will then prepare a youth-led climate action proposal that addresses environmental challenges in Lagos after the official application portal opens. The organisers believe that this initiative will equip cities with new ideas from young people, support them through small grants, and strengthen youth participation in advancing local climate priorities.
