FUTO Vice-Chancellor Alerts Public to Imposter Facebook Profile

Professor Ikechukwu Dozie, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), has brought to public attention a fraudulent Facebook account purportedly operating under his name. This warning comes as the institution strongly advised social media users to avoid any interaction with the said account and to promptly report it to Facebook’s administration.

Mr. Orakwe Ezugwu, the Public Relations Officer for FUTO, issued this caution through an official statement released on Thursday in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State. He clarified that Professor Dozie does not maintain any personal Facebook presence, confirming that the account in question is indeed fake.

“The attention of the Management of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has been drawn to a Facebook account using a name and photograph purporting to represent the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie,” the statement read.

It further emphasized, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-Chancellor does not operate any personal Facebook account. Consequently, any Facebook account claiming to belong to Prof. I.N.S. Dozie is fake, and has no connection whatsoever with the Vice-Chancellor.”

“The public is, accordingly, advised to beware of fraudsters using fake accounts to scam unsuspecting individuals. Please, do not engage with, respond to, or send money, gifts, or personal details to anyone operating such accounts,” the statement continued. The PRO concluded by stating, “The University Management urges anyone who comes across similar accounts to report to Facebook immediately, and inform the University.”

This public disclaimer is believed to be connected to the ongoing admission cycle, as prospective students eagerly await the release of the university’s admission list.
