The management of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital has declared its intention to pursue legal action against certain employees implicated in a widespread job racketeering scheme. These staff members are accused of issuing fraudulent appointment letters to unsuspecting job seekers, having collected substantial amounts ranging from N200,000 to N600,000.

This development was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday by Mr. Tope Fayehun, who heads the Public Relations Unit of the teaching hospital. The statement detailed the institution's awareness of the allegations, noting that "certain persons, posing as important officers, had collected money and gratification from job seekers with promises of securing placement in the new hospital."

The information available to the management indicates that these vulnerable applicants allegedly paid between N200,000 and N600,000, subsequently receiving "purported ‘appointment letters’ in the name of the management of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure." The hospital has also received reports that some of the defrauded individuals, whose identities remain undisclosed, are now demanding refunds from the perpetrators, having realized that their promised absorption into the Federal Government establishment would not materialize.

In light of these findings, the management affirmed that it has no alternative but to initiate appropriate legal proceedings against those identified as fraudsters. The statement further emphasized the hospital's readiness to "make available relevant information and materials in its possession to the appropriate law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies," ensuring a thorough investigation and prosecution of the culprits.
