Ogogo's Family Unveils Fidau, Tribute Plans for Late Actor

The family of the revered Nollywood icon, Taiwo Hasan, widely known as Ogogo, has officially released the schedule for the remaining funeral rites of the deceased. Ogogo, who passed away at the age of 66 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, was laid to rest the following day, August 24, in Ilaro, Ogun State, in accordance with Islamic tradition. His death was initially announced by fellow veteran actor, Jide Kosoko. The interment saw a large turnout of industry colleagues, friends, and associates, including notable figures like Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, and Femi Adebayo.

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, acting as the family’s spokesperson, shared the details of these upcoming events via a Facebook post on Wednesday. He confirmed that the 8th-day Fidau Prayer for the late actor is slated for Monday, August 31, 2026, and will also be held in Ilaro, Ogun State.

Additionally, a special "Artists’ Day" has been planned to honour Ogogo. This event is scheduled to take place 40 days after his burial at the Pavilion Hall, Ilaro. Kosoko described the Artists’ Day as "a tradition and a fitting tribute from members of the entertainment industry" to celebrate the life and legacy of their departed colleague.

The Facebook message, titled ‘Message of appreciation and announcement of the remaining burial programmes for Alhaji Babatunde Taiwo Hassan, aka Ogogo,’ conveyed the family’s gratitude. It read in part: “On behalf of the family of our late colleague, Alhaji Babatunde Taiwo HASSAN, a.k.a. Ogogo, I have the mandate of the family to express our profound appreciation to everyone who turned out en masse for his burial on Monday, 24th August 2026.”

The post further stated: “The family also wishes to inform everyone of the remaining programmes to complete the burial rites of our beloved Alhaji Babatunde Taiwo HASSAN, a.k.a. Ogogo. The 8th-day Fidau Prayer will take place on Monday, 31st August 2026, at Ilaro.” The family also made a plea for continued support, urging: “The family humbly appeals to all friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers to continue to rally around the family during this difficult period. We want you to come en masse to Ilaro so that together, we can offer our prayers for the peaceful repose of our beloved colleague and ask Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.”

Elaborating on the Artists’ Day, the message detailed: “As part of the final activities to honour our late colleague, an Artists’ Day will be held 40 days after his burial at the Pavilion Hall, Ilaro. This will be a special day of performances and entertainment featuring actors, musicians, comedians, singers, and other entertainers, who will come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Alhaji Babatunde Taiwo HASSAN, a.k.a. Ogogo. The programme will be coordinated by TAMPAN — Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria.”

Kosoko concluded his message by thanking everyone for their attendance at the burial, acknowledging it as a "great demonstration of the love and respect you had for Ogogo while he was alive. We sincerely appreciate every one of you."

Ogogo’s passing generated a wave of tributes from both colleagues and fans, who fondly remembered his significant contributions to the growth of Yoruba-language cinema. His acting journey began in the early 1980s, where he quickly rose to prominence as an actor, producer, and filmmaker, becoming a cornerstone of Yoruba Nollywood.
