Nollywood Icon Ogogo's Remains Reach Ilaro for Final Farewell

The solemn journey of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely recognized as Ogogo, concluded in his ancestral home of Ilaro, Ogun State, where his remains arrived for his burial. Emotions ran high as actress Ireti Osayemi was also observed in the town, joining others to pay her last respects to the departed star.

A video shared by X user #DammieDammie captured the poignant moment the late actor's body was received. A profound sense of grief enveloped the gathering, with numerous family members, fellow actors, and local residents converging for the final rites. Separately, a video posted by Emiralty Africa on Instagram on Monday showed Osayemi's arrival in Ilaro for the funeral of the respected actor, whose passing has cast a pall of sorrow over the Yoruba film industry.

PUNCH Online previously reported that Hassan passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. His death followed a courageous battle with stage-four cancer. Just days prior to his demise, his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, had made heartfelt public appeals for urgent medical assistance, disclosing the severe advanced stage of their father's illness. The family had actively sought specialized medical intervention and experts who could review his case, especially after physicians reportedly advised that chemotherapy was no longer a viable treatment option given his condition.

The news of his death was corroborated by multiple reliable sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of Best of Nollywood. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko subsequently released the official burial arrangements. According to these plans, Hassan’s body was scheduled to be transported to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony would take place at the Pavilion on Monday, preceding his interment.

The Ogun State Government also issued a statement, describing the late actor as a brilliant talent whose dedication and artistry significantly contributed to promoting Nigerian culture and showcasing the rich tapestry of Yoruba heritage globally. Born in Ilaro, Hassan was a towering figure in the Yoruba film sector, dedicating decades to captivating audiences through his memorable roles in numerous films and television productions.
