Joy Ezeugwu, Suspended for Uwani General Hospital Video, Resumes Studies

Full Story
Joy Ezeugwu, a nursing student who faced an indefinite suspension from Ezzy College of Nursing in Enugu State, has successfully recommenced her academic journey at a new institution. Her suspension was a direct consequence of a viral video she shared, which brought to public attention the dire state of Uwani General Hospital.
Ezeugwu, earlier this week, happily announced her return to school by sharing a video online, exclaiming, "First day at school, guys." The original video, posted by Ezeugwu earlier in the year, provided a detailed look into the deplorable conditions at Uwani General Hospital (also referred to as Uwani Health Centre). Among the critical issues highlighted were a complete absence of electricity and running water, a lack of essential medical supplies like oxygen and baby monitoring equipment, and a significant mosquito infestation.
Following the widespread circulation of her video, Ezeugwu was apprehended by police. Her arrest occurred on May 4, 2026, by operatives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Enugu, stemming from a formal petition filed by her former school's administration. She was later granted release after fulfilling her bail conditions.
In a crucial intervention, Alex Onyia, the Chief Executive Officer of Educare, stepped forward to offer assistance. He played a pivotal role in facilitating Ezeugwu's transfer to an alternative educational establishment, thereby enabling her to continue her nursing programme. Onyia confirmed her successful resumption of studies yesterday, October 13.
