Abuja: Gas Station Fire in Kubwa Contained by Fire Service

An explosion swiftly followed by a fire at a gas outlet situated near Liberty Junction in Kubwa, Abuja, triggered widespread alarm on Sunday morning. The Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, confirmed that its dedicated firefighters and other emergency response teams mobilised rapidly to the scene of the incident. Their prompt intervention, which began around 6:30 am, successfully brought the inferno under control, effectively preventing what could have escalated into a devastating gas explosion.

The command released details of their operational response through a statement posted on their official Facebook page on Sunday. The statement affirmed: “Federal Fire Service, FCT Command firefighters and other emergency responders today, Sunday 27th September 2026 at about 6:30am swiftly responded to a gas fire at Liberty Junction, Kubwa, Abuja, averting what would have been a major destructive gas explosion.” A video shared by the command further illustrated their personnel actively engaged on-site, working diligently to extinguish the blaze.

Visuals from the incident site revealed the gas outlet building suffered extensive damage, with significant portions burnt and smoke still billowing from the premises. Additionally, several vehicles and motorcycles parked within the facility's immediate surroundings appeared to have been consumed by the fire. However, the Federal Fire Service did not disclose the precise cause of the fire, nor did they provide information regarding the full extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties.
