Suleja, Abuja Environs Brace for Brief Power Disruption This Saturday

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned 20-minute power supply interruption for parts of Suleja and its surrounding areas, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026. This temporary measure is being implemented as part of TCN's annual preventive maintenance programme.

The specific maintenance operation involves the Gwarinpa–Suleja 132/33kV Line 2 bay switchgear and its related equipment. The work is slated to occur between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. During this period, customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) located in Suleja Township, FCT College of Education, Field Base, Zuba, Sabon Wuse, and adjacent communities will experience the short power outage.

In a statement released on Friday, TCN clarified that this exercise requires a temporary power cut to enable the transfer of electrical load from the Gwarinpa–Suleja Line 2 to the Kubwa–Suleja Line 1. The company explained that this strategic load transfer is essential to facilitate the maintenance work without causing a prolonged period of darkness for consumers.

TCN explicitly stated, “Consequently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will experience a 20-minute interruption of power supply only to customers in Suleja Township, FCT College of Education, Field Base, Zuba, Sabon Wuse and environs.”

The transmission company further elaborated that this interruption is indispensable for the safe and efficient execution of the maintenance task. Reiterating its purpose, the company noted, “The interruption is to enable the transfer of load from Gwarinpa–Suleja Line 2 to Kubwa–Suleja Line 1 to facilitate the maintenance exercise without a prolonged outage.”

TCN conveyed its apologies to all affected consumers for any inconvenience that might arise from this planned maintenance. The company affirmed that this operation is an integral part of its annual preventive maintenance schedule, designed to uphold the consistent reliability of the national transmission network.
