Gunfire Near Turkish High School Leaves Eight Wounded, Student Suspect Arrested

A shooting incident unfolded on Tuesday morning outside a vocational and technical high school in Turkey's western Manisa province, resulting in injuries to a minimum of eight individuals, including students. The victims were promptly transported to various hospitals following the early morning gunfire that occurred near the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, situated in the Turgutlu district of Manisa. This information was confirmed by the governor's office through a statement released on X.

Authorities swiftly apprehended the suspected perpetrator, a student, who was attempting to escape the scene after the attack. The governor's office reported receiving an alert regarding the gunfire around 07:59. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the motive behind the assault. "Following the event, security forces successfully apprehended and took into custody the individual believed to have discharged the weapon," the official statement clarified.

This recent act of violence echoes two previous school shootings that rocked Turkey in recent months. In April, sixteen people, predominantly students, sustained injuries when a former student launched an attack at a high school located in the Sanliurfa province. The assailant subsequently took his own life. Just one day later, a 14-year-old tragically killed nine people, comprising both students and teachers, and left thirteen others wounded during an assault at his school in the Kahramanmaras province. Police officers engaged and neutralised that attacker.
