Taraba Nursing College Students Protest After Hostel Attack, S*xual Assault Claim

Hundreds of students from the Taraba State College of Nursing Science, located in Jalingo, recently organized a peaceful demonstration. Their protest followed a violent overnight incident at one of the institution's female hostels, which is situated outside the main campus premises.

Reports indicate that during the attack, a female student was allegedly s*xually assaulted and sustained injuries, including a severed finger. The unfortunate event reportedly took place in the early hours of Monday, September 11, 2026. The assailants stormed the hostel, dispossessing students of their mobile phones and other valuable possessions.

Following the ordeal, the victim was transported to GSCN Hospital in Jalingo's Mile 6 area for medical attention, according to sources close to the situation. A representative of the students' union, who chose to remain anonymous due to fears of reprisal, revealed that this was the second such attack on student hostels within a fortnight.

He further explained that the previous week, attackers had also targeted several hostels, making away with students' phones and other belongings. The official stated, “Yesterday night, the hoodlums came in their numbers and attacked one of the female students’ hostels. They r@ped one of the students and also carted away phones belonging to the students and other valuables.” He added, “They also cut one of the fingers of the student after r*ping her. She is now on admission at a private hospital located at Mile 6 area in Jalingo.”

According to the student official, students had previously raised concerns with the school administration after the first attack. This led to a visit from the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, who had pledged to enhance security measures within the college environs.
