US Prosecutor Andrew Haden's Su*cide Confirmed in San Diego Federal Office

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden died by su*cide within the federal building where he was employed in downtown San Diego.

Mr. Haden's body was discovered last Wednesday. This followed a report received by San Diego police indicating that he might be missing. Officers were dispatched to the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building, where they located him deceased inside an office. Initially, police stated that they did not suspect any foul play surrounding his death. The Medical Examiner’s Office has since concluded that Mr. Haden’s death was a su*cide.

Andrew Haden had a distinguished career, serving as a federal prosecutor for the Southern District of California since 2010. He also stepped in twice as acting U.S. Attorney during periods of leadership transition, specifically in 2023 and 2025. Furthermore, Haden was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, having completed two overseas deployments during his service.

Following this tragic event, U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon expressed profound sadness, calling it “one of the darkest days in our office’s history.” He fondly remembered Haden, describing him as “a beacon of light.” This unfortunate incident has brought renewed attention to the immense pressures faced by prosecutors and other federal government employees, as colleagues continue to mourn the significant loss of Andrew Haden.
