Despite Arson Attack, Kogi Wife Pleads for Husband's Pardon

In a surprising development, Mrs. Berida Irawo, a woman from Kogi State who was severely burnt after her husband, Jacob Irawo, allegedly set her ablaze, has made a plea for his forgiveness. The incident, which LIB reported, led to the arrest of Jacob Irewa by the Kogi State Police Command on charges of attempted culpable homicide.
The horrific event transpired at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja, on Friday, August 14, 2026. Preliminary investigations suggest that a domestic disagreement escalated after Mrs. Irawo reportedly burned some of her husband's old clothes, which she believed he no longer used, without his permission. Following this, the suspect allegedly threatened her, then fetched petrol from his motorcycle, and proceeded to douse and ignite his wife.
A pastor, John Esiga Abu, confirmed Mrs. Irawo's request for her husband's pardon after visiting her at the hospital on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Abu also clarified that the suspect is not a pastor, as widely circulated on social media, but rather a teacher.
Pastor Abu shared insights from his hospital visit, stating: “Fact gathered after visiting & Praying with the Woman in the hospital today over the incident in Kogi State. I was also privileged to meet the father of the lady at the hospital. Here is the fact: Glory to God. God has taken over the situation as she is very stable, hoping to be discharged in a few days time. The information on social media that he is a Pastor is not true. Facts from both families including the wife shows that, he is simply a Teacher. He is never a Pastor but a member in his church.”
He further added, regarding the suspect's state: “The situation seems like a manipulation, as His words were not coordinated initially, there is a need for mental evaluation. Husband came to His senses, asking what even happened to His wife. The Wife on Her own, is pleading that they should forgive Her husband. God bless Honey Gold Hospital for such a quick response.”
Concluding his statement, Pastor Abu offered his opinion: “In conclusion. In my opinion, after Mental evaluation & rehabilitation, let Him be forgiven while the wife separated from Him for now. We are in the evil days, watch and pray over every emotional & manipulated anger. May the Lord bless every home.”
