Meta AI Launches Muse Image: Your New Creative Visual Partner

Meta has officially launched Muse Image, the company's first image generation model originating from Meta Superintelligence Labs, now fully integrated into Meta AI. This announcement, updated on July 10, 2026, at 3:45 PM PT, follows a brief period where an earlier announced method for generating images by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts was withdrawn due to user feedback, as it 'missed the mark.'
Muse Image is designed to function as a creative collaborator, transforming user ideas into high-quality visuals that can be downloaded and shared across Meta's platforms, including directly to feeds, stories, or chats. Building on the intelligence of Muse Spark, which enhanced Meta AI's assistant capabilities, Muse Image now offers a suite of creative tools across Meta's applications. Users can access over 30 new AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories and generate images within direct chats on WhatsApp, initially available in select countries with broader rollout planned.
Whether starting from scratch or modifying an existing photograph, Muse Image allows for simple, conversational prompts. For instance, users can request a mockup of themselves in front of a famous landmark, precisely remove an unwanted element from a photo background, or even create a custom, functional QR code. The model excels at rendering legible text within visuals, making it possible to generate how-to guides or detailed infographics with text styled appropriately.
To assist users in getting started, Meta AI now features a presets panel with suggested prompts. With a single tap, old family photographs can be restored, users can visualize themselves with trending hairstyles, or be reimagined as a claymation character or a 16-bit video game hero. Creations can be easily shared across Meta's apps, allowing friends to experiment with the same presets on their own images.
A unique feature allows users to photograph their room and instruct Meta AI to redesign it using actual products sourced from the web or Facebook Marketplace. Users can specify a preferred style or ask Meta AI to incorporate trending aesthetics for a complete virtual makeover of their space.
Muse Image operates as an intelligent creative partner, meticulously processing prompts before generating an image. Collaborating with Muse Spark, the model undertakes several background steps, including layout planning, referencing real-time web context, and intelligently blending multiple visual references. This complex reasoning enables tasks such as placing a pet into a renowned painting or merging a selfie with a vacation photo to produce a personalized postcard, ensuring the final visual perfectly aligns with the user's concept.
Furthermore, Muse Image incorporates a feature where users can @-mention Instagram accounts within the Meta AI app to integrate specific Instagram profiles into their images. This functionality supports creating custom event invitations, collaborative creative concepts, or personalized graphics by utilizing public photos. Users retain control over how their content can be tagged for AI creation, with an easy-to-use setting to disable this feature at any time.
Editing creations is straightforward; tapping the markup icon allows users to circle, sketch, or annotate changes directly on the image. Since Meta AI retains the full context of the conversation, users can continue refining their work by altering styles, adding elements, or tweaking details without having to restart the process.
Looking ahead, Meta plans to expand Muse Image's availability to more countries and integrate it into additional Meta AI touchpoints, including Facebook and Messenger, as well as more surfaces on Instagram and WhatsApp. In the coming weeks, advertisers and agencies will gain access to Muse Image through Advantage+ creative. While everyday creation with Meta AI and Muse Image remains free, enhanced capabilities are available through Meta's subscription plans. This launch is just the beginning, with Muse Video already in development, marking Meta's progress towards delivering personal superintelligence.
