A harrowing incident unfolded in Argentina where a 22-year-old student pilot was compelled to execute an emergency solo landing after her instructor reportedly exited the aircraft during their flight. The student, who was undergoing training with her 42-year-old instructor, Leandro Bertazzo, in a Cessna C-150 aircraft, found herself in sole command after he evacuated the plane.

The dramatic event took place on a Saturday afternoon, July 4, near the small town of Toledo, situated in Argentina's Cordoba province. Investigators have since launched an inquiry into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Mr. Bertazzo's sudden death. The student, who is understood to possess a pilot's licence despite her limited flying experience, recounted that her instructor deliberately opened the aircraft's window and jumped out.

Despite the shocking nature of the incident, the young pilot demonstrated incredible composure, successfully landing the Cessna C-150 unaided and safely at Coronel Olmedo Airport, the same location from which they had departed. Upon landing, she promptly alerted the authorities to the emergency situation. Approximately 20 minutes later, Mr. Bertazzo's body was discovered in a field within the vicinity that the student had indicated as his likely fall point.

Eduardo Alvarez, the director of Flying Parrot Cordoba, the flight school where Leandro Bertazzo had served as an instructor for four years, shared details of his conversation with the student. She recounted that at one point, Leandro told her, "You know what to do, keep moving forward." According to her account, he then removed his headphones, arranged his personal belongings including his mobile phone, unfastened his seatbelt, opened the aircraft door – which is typically challenging to open – and then jumped out. She then sent a message detailing the situation before proceeding to return and land the plane.

Alvarez described Leandro as a man who was "always smiling" and expressed that no one at the school had any inkling he was contemplating such a drastic action. He reflected on the tragedy, stating, "He took this tragic decision on board a plane with a person by his side. There's no way to think about it or understand it, but the human mind is so complex, so treacherous. That's why what happened, happened."
