Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, recently presided over the graduation ceremony of over 3,000 new soldiers at the Nigerian Army Depot in Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State. This event, which took place on Wednesday, is a key component of the Federal Government's ongoing strategy to enhance the numerical strength of the Army, thereby strengthening its capacity to tackle persistent security threats nationwide.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed this development in a release titled, “COAS passes out another 3,000 recruits, sustains massive recruitment drive to strengthen national defence.” According to Col. Anele, this latest induction follows similar successful recruit passing-out parades held previously at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State, and the recently established training facility in Osogbo, Osun State.

During his address to the graduating personnel, General Shaibu emphasized that their rigorous training was specifically tailored to equip them for contemporary combat operations and to navigate Nigeria's dynamic security landscape. He implored the new soldiers to consistently demonstrate discipline, uphold professional standards, and maintain unwavering allegiance to the Constitution. The COAS stated, “The nation has made substantial investments in your training and expects you to justify that trust through courage, professionalism and selfless service.” Furthermore, he directed the recruits to sustain a high level of vigilance, discipline, and a strong focus on their assigned missions, reiterating that their loyalty to both the Constitution and established authority must never falter.

General Shaibu further characterized the establishment of the Amasiri-Edda Depot as a crucial strategic move aimed at enhancing the Army's existing training facilities and fostering human resource development. He extended his appreciation to the commandant, instructors, and support staff of the depot for their efforts in producing what he termed "competent and combat-ready soldiers," who are prepared to contribute significantly to various military operations across the country.

In his remarks at the event, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State lauded the presence of the military depot within the state, identifying it as a vital national asset. Governor Nwifuru highlighted that the facility has positively impacted the region by boosting security, stimulating local economic activities, and generating opportunities for both residents of Ebonyi State and surrounding areas. He reiterated his administration's steadfast dedication to ongoing cooperation with the Armed Forces and other security organizations to advance peace, stability, and overall development.

The vibrant ceremony saw the attendance of numerous senior military personnel, government functionaries, revered traditional rulers, families of the graduating recruits, and other distinguished guests. Key highlights of the event included an impressive parade, intricate precision drills, and the presentation of special awards to recruits who demonstrated exceptional performance during their training.
