Biafra Pursuit Needs Truth, Not Propaganda, Ifeanyi Ejiofor Tells Ndigbo

Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a prominent human rights lawyer and the lead counsel representing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on the Ndigbo community to transcend emotional reactions and harmful discourse. He specifically advised them to reject narratives that promote violence, disunity, and unnecessary sacrifices, emphasizing that the quest for Biafra cannot succeed if founded on deceit and propaganda. Ejiofor highlighted the ongoing dissemination of false information concerning the Biafra independence movement within the South-East, cautioning that such fabrications have severely impacted the populace.
The lawyer, who bears the traditional title ‘Dunu–Ezeugosinachi’ in his community, issued a statement advocating for Ndigbo to fully adopt a strategy that is peaceful, disciplined, and focused on the people, aligning with a humane vision for the self-determination project. He stressed that the prosperity of Ndigbo in the future would not stem from glorifying strife, but rather from embodying wisdom, strategic governance, honesty, and an steadfast dedication to safeguarding human existence and respect.
Ejiofor further elaborated in his statement that the gravest impact of propaganda extends beyond mere factual inaccuracies; it systematically eradicates independent critical thinking. He asserted, “No cause, however noble or divinely inspired, can succeed if it is built upon manipulation and misinformation. Truth is not an obstacle to any genuine struggle; it is its strongest foundation.”
He continued, “Once a people lose the ability to distinguish truth from carefully manufactured falsehoods, they surrender the very instrument required for their progress. History remains an uncompromising teacher and whenever truth is sacrificed on the altar of propaganda, generations inevitably pay the price.”
The human rights advocate emphasized that warfare extends beyond physical conflict; it is also waged through narratives. He cautioned that fleeting emotional triumphs gained through propaganda can never truly replace objective reality. Ejiofor added, “History repeatedly reminds us that when comforting falsehoods replace uncomfortable truths, the human cost is often devastating.”
Nevertheless, Ejiofor expressed optimism regarding recent occurrences that signify a shift in the existing situation and a fresh direction under the Directorate of State of IPOB, now led by Mazi Chika Edoziem. He noted that the current leadership has entirely moved away from what he characterized as the former approach of spreading misinformation, propaganda, and deceit.
He concluded by affirming that for any self-determination aspiration to be truly founded on justice, fairness, and the collective well-being of the populace, then principles of transparency, honesty, and accountability must be upheld as indispensable tenets.
