Ghana: JHS Student Injures Classmate with Cutlass Over Alleged Harassment

A Junior High School 1 student in Ghana is currently receiving medical attention after a female peer attacked him with a cutlass. The 15-year-old Junior High School 2 student from Assin Krofofrodo D/A Basic School, located in the Assin North District of the Central Region, reportedly struck her male colleague during a school clean-up exercise. The incident occurred because the girl claimed the boy had persistently touched her breast despite her repeated warnings.
School authorities had directed students to clear overgrown sections of the school compound using cutlasses. According to the female student's account, the male pupil, while they were working, continually engaged in inappropriate touching and playing with her breasts. She stated that she had explicitly told him to cease his actions. However, she alleged that the boy was "determined to take a feel" and disregarded her warnings, continuing the unwelcome behaviour.
In response to his perceived defiance, the girl reportedly grabbed a cutlass and inflicted a deep wound on the boy’s inner wrist. The victim bled heavily from the injury and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Following the incident, the injured boy's parents have accused the school management of negligence. They claim the school authorities failed to show adequate concern or take immediate steps after the event, which happened during school hours. The parents further contend that their son was left unattended for some time, despite his profuse bleeding, before they returned from their farm and personally transported him to the hospital for treatment.
Joyce Enyan, the elder sister of the female student, has publicly called for the police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the conduct of the school authorities and their handling of the entire situation.
