Nnani Adaobi Marian, a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, tragically passed away following severe injuries sustained during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The incident occurred on June 29, 2026, when aerial bombs were reportedly dropped by Russian forces on Kharkiv's Kholodnohirskyi district. Adaobi, a recent graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, was initially treated in a Kharkiv hospital before being transferred to Germany, where she later succumbed to her wounds despite persistent efforts by medical professionals.

Kharkiv National Medical University released a statement confirming her demise, remembering her as a remarkable individual. The university described Nnani Adaobi Marian as "a bright, sincere and kind-hearted person. She easily found common ground with people and was distinguished by her thirst for knowledge, hard work and sincere desire to help others." The statement further detailed that her severe injuries necessitated treatment first in Kharkiv and subsequently in Germany. The university conveyed that "everyone sympathized, helped and hoped for her recovery, but they could not save her life."

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office also extended its condolences to Adaobi’s family and loved ones, acknowledging that doctors tirelessly fought to preserve her life until the very end. Adaobi had been a student at Kharkiv National Medical University since 2020 and had further enriched her medical experience through internships at the prestigious University of Cambridge and Biruni University in Turkey.

Reports indicate that at the time of the devastating attack, Adaobi and her friend, Fatima Huseynova, were en route to a photoshoot, presumably in preparation for their upcoming graduation ceremony. Fatima Huseynova regrettably died instantly at the scene, while Adaobi was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. The airstrike resulted in a total of 12 people being injured.
