Senator Natasha Brings Free Campus Wi-Fi to Kogi Federal College

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has successfully championed the provision of a complimentary campus-wide Wi-Fi network at the Federal College of Education, Okene. This new facility, launched on Sunday, aims to significantly boost internet accessibility for students and elevate the standards of teaching, learning, research, and innovation within the institution. Mike Idoko, her media aide, confirmed this development in a statement released from Abuja.
This intervention by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan follows just weeks after she initiated the "Growing Kogi Central, Building Our Future" project, which involves planting 10,000 economic trees. That earlier project was designed to foster environmental sustainability and economic empowerment across her senatorial district.
Speaking during the Wi-Fi facility's unveiling, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that this move aligns with her commitment to broadening educational prospects and preparing the youth for the demands of the digital economy. She stated, "Education remains one of the greatest investments we can make in our future. Access to the internet is no longer a luxury; it is an essential tool for learning, innovation, research, and economic empowerment. Our students deserve the same digital opportunities available anywhere in the world."
The Senator further elaborated on the initiative's goals: "This free Wi-Fi initiative is designed to remove barriers to knowledge, encourage innovation, support academic excellence, and equip our young people with the digital skills required to compete globally. We will continue to invest in projects that improve lives and build a stronger, more prosperous Kogi Central." She highlighted that enhanced internet access would enable students to tap into international learning resources, pursue online certification programs, delve into artificial intelligence, software development, entrepreneurship, and explore remote employment avenues.
Following the inauguration, several students expressed their appreciation for the initiative, hailing it as a substantial advantage for their academic pursuits. They noted that the facility would drastically cut down on personal internet data expenses, improve their access to digital libraries and online courses, and assist them in acquiring crucial skills for the global digital economy. Furthermore, they pointed out that consistent internet connectivity would be instrumental in supporting virtual learning, research endeavors, innovation, and technology-driven entrepreneurial ventures.
Educational stakeholders also applauded the project, underscoring the critical role of reliable internet connectivity in contemporary higher education for effective research, seamless online learning, productive academic collaboration, and overall digital inclusion.
