It has been a month since the devastating attack on three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, which resulted in the tragic loss of a dedicated teacher, Joel Adesiyan. The academic community is still reeling from the shock of the incident, which occurred on Friday, 15th May, 2026, at the Local Authority Primary School in Ahoro Esiele. On that fateful day, bandits stormed the school, fatally shooting Adesiyan and abducting 45 students and teachers. The deceased teacher was laid to rest by his family and colleagues, who are still trying to come to terms with the loss. A senior colleague, Akinwoye Akintunde, paid a heartfelt tribute to Adesiyan on Facebook, describing him as a dedicated, knowledgeable, and sound teacher who died wearing his Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State Chapter uniform. Akintunde expressed his grief, stating that Adesiyan's passing has left a vacuum that cannot be filled. He recalled how Adesiyan would resume duty on Mondays at Ahoro Esiele and return to Ogbomoso on Fridays, demonstrating his commitment to his work. Akintunde confessed that he wept upon hearing the news of Adesiyan's death and found solace in the fact that God's ways are beyond human understanding. The tribute ended with a message of rest and condolence to the deceased teacher, who was remembered as a rare tutor, a giver of knowledge, and a teacher par excellence.
