in Oyo State Ravaged by Fire, Four Vehicles and Container Destroyed — Mechanic Workshop

A fire outbreak occurred at a mechanic workshop located on Togunde Street, Akingbade area, along Old Ife Road in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, resulting in the destruction of four vehicles and a container. According to a statement released by Moroof Akinwande, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency, the incident took place on Saturday at exactly 9:16 p.m. Akinwande, who also serves as the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, stated that the cause of the fire was attributed to sparks from an engine compartment. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident, but significant damage was done to the workshop. The statement further revealed that the fire was swiftly contained by personnel from the state Fire Service, with assistance from the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, thereby preventing the fire from spreading to nearby properties. Akinwande emphasized the importance of fire safety and urged members of the public to be cautious at all times. He also stressed the need for workshops and vehicles to be equipped with fire extinguishers to help prevent the spread of fire. This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous fire outbreaks in the state, including one that destroyed 14 shops at Ogundipe Market in Ibadan North Local Government Area in September 2025, and another that destroyed eight shops near the Sango Police Divisional Headquarters, Sango, in December 2025. An eyewitness, Bukola Ogundeji, recounted the incident, stating that it occurred around 12:30 p.m. and that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
