Tragedy Strikes Kogi College as Final Year Student Meets Untimely Death in Road Accident

A devastating road accident has claimed the life of Ismail Abdulkarim, a final year student of the Community Health Department at the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah. The incident occurred on Friday, May 22, 2026, in the Felele area of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, shortly after Abdulkarim had completed his final examinations. According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened opposite the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, when Abdulkarim attempted to avoid some wheelbarrow pushers on the road and fell under an oncoming trailer, resulting in a fatal head injury. 'He died instantly,' a source at the scene revealed. Abdulkarim was en route to visit his relatives at the other end of the city after arriving in Lokoja from Idah, where he had just completed his final exams. A colleague paid an emotional tribute to the deceased, saying, 'After writing your final exams and heading to see your people, your life was cut short. It is really sad news. The entire Community Health Department has lost you. We all sat in class and wrote exams today, and now you are no longer alive. Rest in peace.' The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) described Abdulkarim's death as heartbreaking and painful to the student community. NAKOSS President, Hassan Mustapha, eulogized the deceased, stating, 'Late Abdulkarim was not only a dedicated student but also a humble, peaceful, and promising young man whose life positively touched those around him.' The Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident, stating that the accident occurred around 5:28 p.m. on Friday opposite the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, involving a truck with registration number KMC 23 YQ.
