Ex-Boyfriend Held by Police Over Mmesoma Umeorini's Death in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a male suspect, Chima Ofoeke, in connection with the suspected homicide of 23-year-old Mmesoma Umeorini. The incident occurred in Uga, located within the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. This arrest follows a report filed by the victim's mother at the Umuchu Divisional Police Officer's office, indicating that her daughter had been missing since October 16 and all attempts to locate her had failed.

Leveraging intelligence-driven information, police operatives, working in concert with members of the Agunechemba security outfit in Uga, successfully apprehended Mr. Ofoeke. He was identified as the deceased's alleged former partner. During an initial questioning session, the suspect reportedly admitted to causing the death of Ms. Umeorini, citing the collapse of their romantic relationship as the motive. Subsequently, he guided detectives to the precise location where the victim's remains were discovered and recovered.

In light of the serious nature of the circumstances surrounding this case, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has issued a directive. The case is to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka. This move is to ensure a thorough and diligent investigation is conducted, with the ultimate objective of seeing that justice is properly served.
