Edo Community Residents Rescue Newborn Abandoned in Sack

A newborn baby girl has been safely recovered after being left inside a sack within the Obaretin Community, located in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. Community members made the startling discovery around 7 a.m. on September 18, 2026, prompting them to immediately contact the police at Ologbo Police Station.

ASP Eno Ikoedem, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the infant was promptly transported to a medical facility for necessary attention. According to Ikoedem, medical professionals examined the baby and declared her to be in good health. The police command has since initiated an investigation to ascertain the identities of the newborn's parents and understand the full circumstances surrounding her abandonment.

Furthermore, ASP Ikoedem noted that appropriate government agencies have been notified to facilitate a secure environment and proper care for the rescued baby. The police spokesperson appealed to the public, urging anyone with valuable information regarding the child's parents or their whereabouts to come forward and assist the authorities.
