Three Hundred Suspects Nabbed as FCT Police Sweep Crime Flashpoints

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the apprehension of approximately 300 individuals following a major raid on identified criminal hideouts, shanties, and uncompleted structures across the FCT. This extensive operation, conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, is part of the command's continuous efforts to deter criminal activities, disrupt illicit operations, and bolster the safety and security of residents within the capital territory.

Details of the raid were disclosed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, from the Command's headquarters in Abuja, and subsequently shared on their official X handle on Sunday. Adeh confirmed that all arrested persons are currently undergoing "thorough screening and profiling." She further clarified that those found culpable of committing offenses would face legal proceedings, while individuals with no evidence against them would be released after proper verification.

During the operation, which spanned various locations, law enforcement agents successfully raided numerous known criminal enclaves. Items confiscated from these sites included various knives, a toy gun, cannabis, and other illegal narcotics. The statement underscored that the legal process would be strictly adhered to, ensuring that only those with legitimate cases against them would be prosecuted.

Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, reiterated the command's unwavering dedication to sustaining "intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations" throughout the FCT, specifically targeting areas identified as potential havens for criminals. CP Sanusi also issued a strong caution to the youth and other residents of the FCT regarding the perils of illicit drug use, highlighting how substance abuse can impair judgment, incite violence, and expose both individuals and communities to severe security risks. He urged anyone battling drug addiction to seek professional counselling and rehabilitation support, rather than allowing their struggles to lead them into criminal activities.

Furthermore, the Police Commissioner strictly advised officers participating in such operations to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct. He explicitly warned against using these raids or arrests as opportunities for "extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money," stressing that any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face severe disciplinary measures.
